          The show runs from July 26th- August 3rd.  Looking forward to seeing everyone on August 23rd for For Spacious Skies: A Day to Celebrate the Sky.  Meteorologist, Children’s games and activities, Mr. Jack Borden of the For Spacious Skies program, and more.  1-4 p.m.

The IRS 1023 application submitted by the Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum has been reviewed by the Internal Revenue Service and the Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum is now officially a non-profit organization!  The process was lengthy, difficult – and so worth the effort.  As a 501c3 public charity, the Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum can accept monetary donations as well as donations of stocks, bonds, and securities, paintings, tangible property, and many other forms of donations.  As we have practiced since the inception of the organization, no one in the Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum receives compensation in any form.  We are strictly a volunteer organization committed to the advancement of Eric Sloane and the museum he founded.

Weather Hill Farm is seeking original pen and ink illustrations by Eric Sloane, N.A. for an upcoming project.  We are seeking images, preferably direct scans but clear photographs are welcome as well – please include how you would like your name(s) to appear in a credit when submitting an image.  Scans or photographs should be clear and bright and saved at a high resolution as a jpeg file.  You may send to [email protected] or use our mailing address:

Contest, Exhibit and Sale

The Eric Sloane Museum and the Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum are seeking entries from the public.  This year’s theme is the sky, clouds, weather and aviation.

Anyone is welcome to participate!

Participant Categories:  Under 18, Over 18, Professional Artists – Prizes awarded in each.

Artistic Mediums:  Any form of art to be displayed indoors or out of doors.

Requirements:  Art must be suitable for the museum audience.

When:  Entries must be submitted during regular museum hours July 17th – July 25^th, Thursday – Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  There will be an Opening Reception hosted by the Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum on Saturday July 26^th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  The show runs from July 26^th– August 3^rd.  Participants should plan to pick up their works of art between Thursday, August 7^th and Sunday, August 10^th between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Don’t Forget!  The annual July 4th “Ringing of the Bells” ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Eric Sloane Museum.  This is a charming event and one that you will remember for years to come.

I am not aware of another statement made by artist Eric Sloane, nor made by someone referring to Sloane’s works, which so encapsulates his reverence for the sky.  It seems fitting, as we near the beginning of the 2014 season of the Eric Sloane Museum, to pause and reflect on the significance of Sloane’s sentiments.

Save these Dates!  Come and enjoy the many great events sponsored by the Eric Sloane Museum and the Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum. We look forward to seeing you this summer.

May 3rd– The Eric Sloane Museum will offer discounted admission in conjunction with the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association Spring Power Up on May 3rdfrom 10 to 4.  There will be demonstrations in pottery using a foot powered treadle wheel and bowl turning on a spring pole lathe on museum grounds.

May 17th – Opening of the 2014 exhibit The Artist Who Loved the Sky:  Cloudscapes, Weather, and the World of Eric Sloane.  Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum Hospitality Tent 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

June 14th – Connecticut Open House Day, 10 – 4.  Free Admission.  Children’s’ activities – create their own weathervane or lightning rod art piece to take home with them.  Art supplies will be provided.  Artist Joe Buda’s weathervane and lightning rod art on display.

July 4th – Annual “Ringing of the Bells” ceremony at 2 p.m.
